• Sevenoaks School

Many of the team members have also been involved at Sevenoaks School. The outdoor sports facilities at Sevenoaks are spread over three locations. The largest site has an athletics track and seven football and rugby pitches. The second site has two artificial grass pitches and two natural grass pitches whilst the third has the School’s first eleven cricket square and three further football or rugby pitches.

The School appreciates that is has fallen behind a number of peer schools in its sports provision. One of The Sports Construction Consultancy’s regular clients, Tonbridge School, is nearby where the facilities are superb – the natural turf pitch work is down to the Schools’ Head of Grounds but the two artificial grass pitches and athletics track have all had a construction or resurfacing project management input from the Sports Construction Consultancy. Floodlit tennis courts have also been project managed there using an artificial clay surface.

So, Sevenoaks is developing a 10 year strategy to improve its’ facilities.

Our Agronomist carried out the assessment of existing pitches using the National Performance Quality Standards. The Sports Construction Consultancy carried out a topographical survey of all three sites and grading plans have been drawn up to improve the levels of the largest site – this will be carried out in two phases working around a pond and T.P.O trees. The outline natural turf and drainage work design is all by our agronomist who has also reviewed the maintenance equipment, the maintenance of the current pitches, the sub-contracted maintenance elements and the need for replacement equipment.

Initial discussions took place with the PE staff to ascertain their aspirations and what they felt were shortcomings in the Schools’ provision. The 10 year planned developments have been costed and spread over the period.

A draft costed report were submitted and the next phase is to receive feedback from the Bursar, PE staff and Estates Manager – meeting them if required.

The draft report will then be modified and presented to School Governors.
