• Eastbourne Sports Park

    Location: Eastbourne Sports Park
    Client: Eastbourne Borough Council
Construction Period: July 2011 (4 weeks)
    Value: £105,000 plus VAT

The scheme was developed with the client and a feasibility study carried out with accurate budget costings provided for an application to The Football Foundation.

The client lead came from the Sports Park staff and tender and contract processes were developed with a procurement team and the Borough’s legal representatives.

The existing sand filled pitch was at the end of its’ life and hockey users had drifted away from the facility. It was agreed that a 40mm pile 3G carpet was appropriate for the needs of the sports park and the project was managed throughout by The Sports Construction Consultancy.

In this case it was possible to save the cost of shockpad replacement with some careful localised patching but another technique that can be utilised is to apply a polyurethane binder to the shockpad.

The staff at the Sports Park above would agree that they are an inexperienced employer but, nevertheless, a very successful project was completed and they are very satisfied with a pitch that achieves FIFA 1 Star for football and can accommodate some basic hockey training use.
