This project, partly for a sand dressed pitch resurface to FIH National standards, was handed over in late August 2014 . The Sports Construction Consultancy has a long track record with this client.

The original floodlit sand filled pitch was constructed in 1999 and project managed from planning permission to completion. Since then the Company has provided ongoing maintenance and budgeting advice and also completed other projects including natural turf works and the resurfacing of a MUGA in 3G artificial grass for football.

The latest project included the resurfacing of tennis and netball courts, the conversion of part of the old courts to car parking and a 60 x 40m multi sport court, also to FIH National Standards (as the pitch). As well as for multi sport, this area is also used by the Hockey Clubs as a warm up area and for training – the surfacing matching that of the main pitch.

The project has involved stakeholder discussions with the Local Authority so far as Highway Access is concerned, with a shared access to a Leisure Centre, with neighbours who requested additional planting and who also maintained that a footpath was flooding. In fact, there were periods of torrential rain during the construction period and temporary additional run-off during the establishment of banks was not a real issue in the long term.

With projects designed now, we insist on a higher binder content for the shockpad so that a resurface doesn’t need to include the cost of the shockpad. The pitch shockpad proved to be substantial enough, with some reinforcing, to accept the resurfacing, saving money for the client to reallocate.
